Harmful Effects Of Smoking – Quit Now For A Better Tomorrow

It is a very well known fact that smoking is injurious to your health. Smoking is a practice of inhaling and exhaling the smoke of tobacco or a drug. Once addicted to smoking, it gets very difficult to abandon the habit.

Today, people start smoking at a very early age, not realizing the harm, they are doing to themselves.
Tobacco smoke is very harmful to your health. There’s no safe way to smoke. If you’re replacing your cigarette with a cigar or hookah, it won’t help you to avoid your health risks.

There are several harmful effects of smoking, here are few of them.

1. Sexuality and Reproductive System 


When we say Smoking is injurious, we aren’t joking.It is harmful to men as well as for women.

For Men, it increases the risk of lower sperm count, genetic damage to sperm and a higher percentage of deformed sperm. It also causes impotence as the circulation of blood decreases.

For Women, it causes irregularities in the menstrual cycle, an early menopause and decreases fertility.

2. Cancer 


Chemicals in cigarette smoke enter our blood and affect our entire body resulting in cancer. Smoking causes so many diseases including several types of cancer, majorly lung, kidney and mouth cancer.

The more cigarettes you smoke a day, the higher your risk of cancer. 

Other cancers which are caused by smoking are Liver, Trachea, Bladder, Stomach, Colon, Rectum, Larynx, Bronchus,  Esophagus and Nasopharynx.

3. Loss Of Vision 


People are unaware of the fact that smoking causes loss of vision. Tobacco smoke causes biological changes in your eyes which lead to vision loss. It causes oxidative stress and damages your retina. Cigarettes contain harmful chemicals that enter your eyes and increase your risk of vision loss by up to four times. Smoking is injurious to your eyes and there is no doubt on this because it is scientifically proven.

4. Respiratory System 


The effects of tobacco smoke on the respiratory system include irritation of windpipe and voice box and breathlessness due to swelling of the lung airways. Smoking increases the risk of lung infection and symptoms such as coughing and wheezing. It causes permanent damage to the air sacs of the lungs.

5. Premature Ageing


More than 4000 out of 7000 chemicals in tobacco smoke damage fibres that give your skin its strength and elasticity resulting in wrinkles and sagging skin. Cigarette smoke contains nicotine which reduces blood flow, leaving skin dry and discoloured. I believe nobody wants to look 60 at the age of 30.

6. Gum Disease


Gum disease which is also known as periodontal disease is an infection of the gums and can affect the bone structure that supports your teeth. Smoking is injurious to gums because it leaves bacteria on your teeth that get under your gums resulting in teeth falling out.

7. Heart Disease 

Smoking damages the lining of your arteries, resulting in building up atheroma which narrows the artery, which in turn causes a heart attack or stroke. Breathing tobacco smoke damages blood vessels which cause atherosclerosis. It is injurious because it directly leads to heart disease which sometimes is incurable.
